Maya Angelou. Woman Work*

Trabajo de mujer*

Tengo niños que atender
Ropa que coser
Un piso que limpiar
Comida que comprar
Luego pollo que freir
Un bebé que secar
Tengo compañía que alimentar
Un jardín que mantener
Tengo camisas que planchar
Pequeños que vestir
Una lata que abrir
Tengo que limpiar esta choza
Después ver a los enfermos
Y el algodón que recoger.

Brilla en mí, luz del sol
Llueve en mí, lluvia
Caed lentamente, gotas de rocio
Y enfríad mi frente otra vez.

Tormenta, llévame de aquí
Con tu viento feroz
Déjame flotar por el cielo
Hasta que pueda descansar otra vez.

Caed suavemente, copos de nieve
Cubrirme de blancos
Besos helados y
Dejadme descansar esta noche.

Sol, lluvia, curva del cielo
Montaña, océanos, hoja y piedra
El brillo de una estrella, rayo de luna
Sois todo lo que puedo llamar mío.

Woman Work

I've got the children to tend
The clothes to mend
The floor to mop
The food to shop
Then the chicken to fry
The baby to dry
I got company to feed
The garden to weed
I've got shirts to press
The tots to dress
The can to be cut
I gotta clean up this hut
Then see about the sick
And the cotton to pick.

Shine on me, sunshine
Rain on me, rain
Fall softly, dewdrops
And cool my brow again.

Storm, blow me from here
With your fiercest wind
Let me float across the sky
'Til I can rest again.

Fall gently, snowflakes
Cover me with white
Cold icy kisses and
Let me rest tonight.

Sun, rain, curving sky
Mountain, oceans, leaf and stone
Star shine, moon glow
You're all that I can call my own.
